LIVE UPDATES: Snowfall, crashes impacting road conditions in western WA
Icy commutes across Puget Sound area
Despite the rough Thursday morning commute, this evening is a different story.
The Seattle area was once again blanketed by snowfall on Thursday, creating slick and icy road conditions for drivers during the morning commute.
According to the FOX 13 Seattle Weather team, the area is expected to dry out by the second half of the morning commute, with sunshine later in the day. Temperatures will rise to the mid-30s, helping to melt any snow or ice on the main roads by midday.
Multiple school districts in the region have announced closures and delays, Sea-Tac is reporting flight delays and cancelations and thousands are without power.

4 p.m.: Icy Friday morning commute
While road conditions have improved into the afternoon, some areas are still seeing slushy and wet roads, like SR 3 in Bremerton.
Forecasts point to clear skies tonight, though frigid temperatures could complicate the Friday morning commute.
11:28 a.m.: I-5 express lane delayed for road treatment
WSDOT announced that the southbound I-5 express lane reversal will be delayed so crews can treat the roadway.

8:35 a.m.: I-5 ramp to SR-520 in Seattle blocked for water on roadway
WSDOT announced that the southbound I-5 off-ramp to SR-520 in Seattle was blocked due to water over the roadway.

8:26 a.m.: Crash on SR-520 causing slow traffic in Seattle
"A collision on EB SR 520 just east of Montlake Blvd in Seattle is partially blocking the right lane. State Patrol is on scene." - WSDOT Traffic

8:18 a.m.: Mountain Pass conditions
Snoqualmie Pass (I-90):
As of 8:18 a.m., traction tires are advised and oversize vehicles are prohibited on Snoqualmie Pass. There is conmpact snow and ice on the roadway with active snow flurries.
Stevens Pass (US-2):
According to WSDOT, traction tires are advised and oversize vehicles are prohibited on Stevens Pass. It is snowing lightly, and there is compact snow and ice on the roadway.
7:51 a.m.: Downed tree blocking lanes in Seattle
The Seattle Department of Transportation is reporting a downed tree blocking eastbound lanes of NE 125th St. at 19th Ave. NE.
7:42 a.m.: WSDOT urges drivers to keep a safe distance from snow plows in Tacoma, WA
"As we're seeing renewed snow in areas, please know we continue our response," WSDOT Tacoma announced on X.

7:27 a.m.: Icy roads have cars sliding out of control in Bremerton, WA
The Kitsap County Sheriff's Department shared video on social media showing deputies responding to several drivers who spun out in slick road conditions.
7:20 a.m.: ‘Biggest advice for the day – leave early!’
WSDOT Traffic advised travelers to leave early due to slick and slushy driving conditions in western Washington, providing travel times for popular morning commutes.
- Everett to Seattle: 38 minutes, 32 minutes in the HOV lane.
- Federal Way to Seattle: 32 minutes, 28 minutes in the HOV lane.
- Everett to Bellevue: 55 minutes, 29 minutes in the HOV lane.
- Federal Way to Bellevue: 36 minutes, 31 minutes in the HOV lane.
6:03 a.m.: Crews push disabled vehicle on SR-522 ramp to SR-9
"Our Incident Response Team was able to get a vehicle on its way after this earlier crash on the eastbound SR 522 ramp to SR 9," wrote WSDOT Traffic via X. "Please make sure to give our crews plenty of room. They're out there helping you!"

5:23 a.m.: Multiple collisions reported after western WA snowfall
WSDOT Traffic announced on X that its crews were responding to multiple crashes after Wednesday night's snowfall. Crews are urging drivers to stay alert, slow down, allow extra time, giver other drivers plenty of space and respect WSDOT pow clearing roadways.

3:05 a.m.: Car catches fire and explodes on I-405 in Renton, WA
WSDOT Traffic reported a disabled vehicle on the I-405 southbound on-ramp from northbound SR-167. DOT cameras captured the moment an electrical explosion happened as firefighters were working on the fire.

3:45 p.m.: More snow on the way tonight
WSDOT is warning drivers about another round of moderate to heavy snow coming Wednesday night into Thursday morning.
Drivers are urged to plan ahead, especially those using the I-405 corridor between Renton and Bellevue, along with State Routes 18, SR 167, 169, 202, 203, 516 and 900 in East King County.
11:57 a.m.: Snowy conditions on I-5 between Olympia and Tacoma
WSDOT Tacoma sent out video of a traffic camera showing active snowfall on I-5 near Joint Base Lewis-McChord. Crews are urging drivers to remember that speed limits are for ideal weather conditions.
10:14 a.m.: Crash blocks right lane on SR-203 in WA
According to WSDOT Traffic, there was a collision blocking the southbound right lane of SR-203 just south of NE 77th St.
9:58 a.m.: Crews work to clear SR-14 crash amid heavy snowfall in WA
WSDOT Southwest posted traffic camera video showing snow fall heavily as crews work to clear a crash on westbound SR-14.

9:57 a.m.: ‘Slow down. Plan ahead’ for snow plows: WSDOT
8:58 a.m.: WSDOT crews struck by vehicles during slick conditions in WA
WSDOT is reporting two separate crashes where road crews were hit by other cars. Fortunately, there are no injuries to report. WSDOT is urging drivers to slow down and pay attention during slick and snowy road conditions.

8:50 a.m.: Seattle garbage, recycling collection delays due to snowy weather
Seattle Public Utilities announced that residential garbage, recycling and food/yard waste collection will be delayed due to slick weather conditions. Delays are expected to impact customers on Thursday and Friday as well.
Additionally, Seattle Public Utilities transfer stations will be closed Feb. 5 due to weather conditions.
8:32 a.m.: DUI driver arrested after crash on SR-167
Washington State Patrol Trooper Rick Johnson sent out an alert saying that he responded to a two-car crash on SR-167 where a vehicle was rear ended. An arrest was made, and the portable breathalyzer test revealed that the impaired driver had a BAC that was three times the legal limit.

8:01 a.m.: Multi-car and semi crash cause 3-mile backups in in southwest WA
WSDOT Southwest warned drivers to expect delays due to two collisions; one being an overturned semi near Lieser Road, the other being a multi-car crash near I-205 off ramp.

8:01 a.m.: Alert from King County Metro
Winter weather has led to buses on snow routes in parts of King County, with the RapidRide G Line temporarily replaced by snow shuttle Route 90. Riders are advised to check bus status and allow extra travel time.
7:54 a.m.: Troopers respond to crash on I-5 in Marysville, WA
WSDOT announced a collision on northbound I-5 blocking the right lane just north of 116th St. NE. Officials are warning drivers to expect delays in the area.

7:48 a.m.: SR-900 blocked in Renton, WA for incident
WSDOT announced that both directions of SR-900 just east of 164th Ave. NE in Renton were blocked for an incident.
7:35: a.m.: Roadwork on the West Seattle Bridge
The Seattle Department of Transportation is warning drivers to use caution while traveling on the West Seattle Bridge due to road construction on the left shoulder of the westbound lanes.

7:34 a.m.: National Weather Service Seattle offers steps to stay safe on the road
The National Weather Service (NWS) offered tips for safely shoveling snow off driveways and guidance on how travelers should adjust their driving during snowy conditions.
7:30 a.m.: Mountain Pass conditions
Snoqualmie Pass (I-90):
WSDOT is reporting heavy snowfall in Snoqualmie Pass with snowy and icy roadways. As of 7 a.m., traction tires are required and chains are required on vehicles weighing more than 10,000 pounds. These restrictions are both in place for east and westbound traffic.
Stevens Pass (US-2):
Traction tires are advised and oversize vehicles are prohibited on both east and westbound Stevens Pass, according to WSDOT’s 7 a.m. update.
