Seattle Public Schools delayed due to snow. Here's what to know

Snow and icy roads forced more western Washington schools to be delayed or closed on Wednesday.

Seattle Public Schools said on Feb. 5 that all schools would conduct remote instruction today with a two-hour delay, according to a statement from the Office of Public Affairs.

School buildings will be closed, and there will be no in-person instruction, affecting all levels, including preschool and Head Start programs. However, PreK and Head Start will not participate in remote learning.

Schools will conclude at the standard early release time. Families are advised to expect instructions from their student’s school and to ensure that their SPS electronic devices are prepared for learning.

All morning and afternoon activities, as well as athletic events, have been canceled. For more information and updates, families are encouraged to visit the SPS website.

5 Tips for driving in the Snow

Slow down: Reduce your speed to maintain control of your vehicle on slippery roads.

Increase following distance: Allow more space between your car and the vehicle in front of you to give yourself ample time to stop.

Use headlights: Keep your headlights on to increase visibility for yourself and others.

Avoid sudden movements: Make gentle turns and avoid sudden braking to prevent skidding.

Stay informed: Check weather and road conditions before heading out and consider delaying travel if conditions are severe.
