Celebrating Lunar New Year in Seattle

it is the year of the snake, and the Lunar New Year celebration was a day full of culture in Seattle's Chinatown International District. Yesterday's free event featured different foods, shopping for clothes, martial arts demonstrations and of course, the iconic lion dance performances.

Black History Month activities in Seattle

There are several other local events celebrating Black History Month this weekend. The Soul of Seattle will take place at Block 41, that is, from 5:30 to 10 p.m. That event helps foster community through food. The goal there is to shed light on the diverse, black owned businesses within Seattle. And then Sunday, the Bainbridge Island Museum of Art will host its Celebrating Black Voices Film Festival that's happening from 12-6 p.m., showcasing classic films and contemporary pieces by local filmmakers, offering a really powerful reflection of black experiences and creativity.

Pioneer Square shootout leads to first Seattle homicide of 2025

A man is dead and a woman left hospitalized following an overnight shooting in Downtown Seattle's Pioneer Square neighborhood. Police confirm this is the first homicide in Seattle in 2025. There were dozens of shell casings from multiple guns, police say. Officers are asking the public for help with any information as there have been no arrests made so far.

Mural for incarcerated Japanese Americans during WWII vandalized in Seattle

Artwork dedicated to Japanese Americans incarcerated in WWII were discovered vandalized on Dr. Martin Luther King Junior Day in Seattle's Chinatown-International District. Jeff Liang, Interim Executive Director with Chinatown International District's Business Improvement Area (CID-BIA) says he was alerted of the defacement on Monday in Nihonmachi Alley, the Japantown area of CID.

Police arrest Seattle Metro bus stabbing suspect

Seattle police told FOX 13 that a 59-year-old man was arrested on a King County Metro bus near 2nd Avenue South and South Main Street in Seattle. Police did not say who identified him in order to make the arrest. He was taken to SPD headquarters Saturday morning to be interviewed by homicide detectives. He was then booked into the King Co. Jail for investigation of murder, according to police.
