Police: Stowaway arrested after sneaking onto flight from Seattle to Hawaii

A suspect was arrested after allegedly stowing away on a flight from Seattle to Honolulu, Hawaii on Christmas Eve.

Officials with Seattle-Tacoma International Airport say around 1:00 p.m. on Dec. 24, the suspect boarded Delta flight 487 to Hawaii and was discovered while the plane was still out on the runway before takeoff. The plane returned to the terminal, and the suspect got off the plane.

Port of Seattle Police were called to gate B1 to investigate, and with airport staff, were able to track the suspect through video surveillance.

Police found the suspect in a terminal bathroom and arrested them for criminal trespass, then booked them into SCORE Jail.

Officials grounded the flight while a K9 team swept the plane and terminal. Passengers were re-screened, and the plane eventually resumed its flight two hours later around 3:00 p.m.

The following investigation revealed the suspect had gotten through a TSA security checkpoint on Dec. 23, the day before stowing away on the plane. They had no boarding pass but were properly screened. The suspect also managed to get on the plane's loading bridge without scanning a ticket at the gate.
