Witnesses sought in fatal I-5 hit-and-run crash in Tacoma

TACOMA, Wash. - Washington State Patrol is seeking witnesses to a fatal hit-and-run crash that happened on I-5 in Tacoma last weekend.

On Saturday afternoon, WSP says a 39-year-old man from Temple, Texas, was in a disabled vehicle that was blocking an unknown lane on southbound I-5 near the Tacoma Mall when it was struck by a green Chevrolet Silverado pickup.

The driver of the Silverado fled the scene in a white GMC Acadia that was stolen from a good Samaritan who stopped to help, according to WSP.

Ex-Tacoma Police officer Christopher Burbank, who was cleared of wrongdoing in the death of Manuel Ellis, has resigned from the Thurston County Sheriff's Office just two days after his hiring.

The GMC was found abandoned several miles down the road.
