Collision sends 18 kids to hospital as precaution; car driver seriously hurt

KING COUNTY -- Eighteen children were taken to the hospital as a precaution after a collision involving a private bus and a car, officials said.

The kids were on a field trip Wednesday shortly after noon when the crash happened in the 24700 block of Vashon Hwy SW. The circumstances of the collision were not immediately available.

King County officials said the driver of the car was seriously hurt. That person's condition has not been released.

Detectives said the highway would remain closed for "an extended time" for the investigation.
