Police evacuate Port Angeles neighborhood for suspected bomb

PORT ANGELES, Wash. (AP) — An apartment complex and other nearby residents were evacuated after police say they found what appeared to be explosive devices in a residence.

The Peninsula Daily News reports (http://goo.gl/Xf8BUz ) police were serving a warrant in an unrelated case Friday at 1019 W. 18th St. when they found the devices. Port Angeles Police Department Sgt. Josh Powless says they took a man into custody. They have not released his name.

A State Patrol Explosives Unit was called and was using a remoted controlled vehicle with a camera and robotic arm to secure the suspicious items. A vehicle specially equipped to remove explosive devices was expected to take the items to a secure area.

Powless said the police saw at least one device that looked like a homemade explosive. The evacuation is in effect until the devices can be removed and rendered safe.
