Firefighters rescue driver, three Pomeranians from wrecked SUV

CLEARVIEW, Wash. -- Firefighters in Snohomish County pulled a man and his three dogs to safety after an SUV went over an embankment and into the woods.

An off-duty Monroe firefighter discovered the vehicle, with a man trapped inside, at 212th Street Southeast and Echo Lake Road shortly before 2 p.m. Friday.

When fire crews arrived, they were able to cut the trees away and rescue the man without incident. He was uninjured.

As soon as the crew learned the man's dogs were still in the vehicle, they returned and pulled all three pups to safety.

Firefighters called the outcome a happy ending to what could have been a devastating situation.

Investigators said the driver lost control of his vehicle when his tires caught the edge of the pavement.
