2 men found dead in Belltown apartment appear to have been beaten to death, police say

SEATTLE (AP) — Police say two men found dead in a downtown Seattle apartment Monday appear to have been beaten to death.

Seattle detectives are investigating the deaths as a double homicide. The King County Medical Examiner's Office will officially identify the two as well as cause and manner of death.

Police say they were called to a Seattle apartment building on the 2200 block of First Avenue to check the welfare of a tenant Monday afternoon. When no one answered the door, police say a maintenance worker let them inside and they found two men dead on the floor.

The Seattle Times reports (http://goo.gl/Q2ZaVL) Seattle Housing Authority spokeswoman Kerry Coughlin says one victim was a Housing Authority tenant. Coughlin described him as a disabled man who had rented the apartment since 2005.
