OLYMPIA — A Capital High School student was arrested Thursday for bringing a handgun onto school grounds, police said.

The Olympia Police Department student resource officer, or SRO, was notified that a student had brought a handgun to the campus, police said. The student is related to the SRO, police said.

Upon learning of the information, the SRO removed the student from class and discovered that a handgun was in the student’s car on campus, police said. The vehicle and handgun were seized and removed from the school.

Police said the student was suspended from school and the police department is conducting a criminal investigation for firearm possession charges.
