SALEM, Ore. (AP) — A suspect shot by police after a seven-hour standoff in a Salem, Oregon, parking lot has died of his injuries, police announced Friday night.
Police used heavy equipment to ram the bus and punch holes in it. Shots were fired Friday evening, the gunman tumbled out of the bus and was loaded into an ambulance.
Lt. Dave Okada said the man was being taken to a hospital.
“The suspect is not being identified at this time and he has since died of his injuries,” the Salem Police Department said late Friday night.
The standoff near a Salem Walmart began seven hours earlier with a report of a suspicious vehicle and the discovery there was a warrant for the arrest of the man inside.
Officers exchanged gunfire with the man. A police dog was wounded but not seriously hurt.
During the afternoon, police used tear gas to try to dislodge the man, but he refused to come out.
