CHICAGO (AP) — Little League International has stripped Chicago's Jackie Robinson West team of its national title after concluding the team used a falsified boundary map.

IN DEPTH:  More from Chicago's WGN-TV

The team 'knowingly violated Little League International Rules and Regulations by placing players on their team who did not qualify to play because they lived outside the team’s boundaries' said the Little League International in a statement issued Wednesday morning.

Mountain Ridge Little League in Las Vegas will be handed the 2014 U.S. Little League World Series Championship.

Little League International also suspended Jackie Robinson West manager Darold Butler from league activity.

A statement from Little League International says in part:

“This is a heartbreaking decision. What these players accomplished on the field and the memories and lessons they have learned during the Little League World Series tournament is something the kids can be proud of, but it is unfortunate that the actions of adults have led to this outcome.”

WGN-TV spoke with a parent of one of the players.
