Man pleads guilty in 2011 crash that killed 2
SEATTLE -- A man found guilty Monday for vehicular homicide and vehicular assault from a 2011 crash will serve 64 months in prison.
Daniel Ray Habeeb entered an Alford plea Monday, meaning he acknowledged there was enough evidence to convict him but not directly admitting to guilt. Habeeb killed Krisopher Martin, 33, when he struck him and Laura Sheard, 26, on Nov. 13, 2011 as he drove on Lake City Way Northeast in a Ford Explorer.
He was found not guilty by the reason of insanity for killing Sheard.
Habeeb's 10-year-old daughter and a friend were in the car when he crashed into Sheard and Martin. They young girls were unhurt in the incident. Police believe Habeeb was driving somewhere between 70 and 90 mph before the crash.
Habeeb had a previous conviction for a fatal crash he initiated in 2009 while suffering a psychotic episode during a drive in Interbay. He told the judge in the previous case that voices in his head instructed him to speed.
Habeeb's attorney said he suffers from temporal lobe epilepsy, a condition causing periods of psychosis.
