With hundreds of students on hand, Regence BlueShield and the Seattle Sounders recently unveiled a new soccer mini-pitch at Benson Hill Elementary School in Renton.

The new soccer play area is part of a multi-year partnership between Regence and Sounders FC focused on community initiatives that aim to improve the physical health and total wellness for youth.

"The efforts that we're embarking on right now are all about bringing excitement and space for kids to play and be physically active - with the launch of this mini-pitch, which is basically a dedicated play area for kids to enjoy soccer year-round," said Dr. Nicole Saint Clair, executive medical director for Regence BlueShield.

The event also served as the mini-pitch debut of the Sounders' new logo, "which was really exciting and looked great on the new mini-pitch field," Saint Clair said.

The Regence-Sounders partnership emphasizes the importance of overall health and wellness for children. "You can't have great physical health without behavioral health," Saint Clair said. "And we know that kids just aren't getting enough time and space to enjoy leisure, play, and fitness activity."

Dr. Saint Clair also noted the geographic alignment, with Regence and Sounders both set to open new headquarters in Renton in coming months. "Bringing in a sport (to Renton kids) that we love with the Sounders, (it) really aligns our goals together."

Brad Evans, former Sounders great and a current brand ambassador for the club, shared his excitement about the commitment to Renton.

"Yes, we have (mini-pitches) going out all throughout the state. But for the Sounders, we can almost see the (Benson Hill) school from our new facility," Evans said. "It's really important to us
to be in the community. It's really special to me. And I know that the players are really excited about it as well."

Evans acknowledged the promising collaboration with Regence, "Regence has been a fantastic sponsor for us and partner. It's not just about us doing one field together. It's about, we can
have 50 of these at some point. It's about building, but we've got to start somewhere. So to be (at Benson Hill Elementary) today is really special."
