Suspect in shooting with Lynnwood Police found in Portland hospital
LYNNWOOD, Wash. - Law enforcement says an 18-year-old who's receiving treatment at a Portland hospital could be responsible for exchanging gunfire with Lynnwood Police officers on Sunday.
On Feb. 25 around 7:30 p.m., officers were on an unrelated retail theft call in the Target parking lot on Alderwood Mall Parkway.
While there, officers saw a stolen Hyundai that appeared to target a 13-year-old and 15-year-old walking through the lot, intentionally striking the 13-year-old. There appears to be no relationship between the 15-year-old, 13-year-old and suspects in the stolen Hyundai.
Officers then attempted to pull over Hyundai, which led them onto the southbound ramp of I-5 at 36th Avenue. Officers executed a PIT maneuver to stop the vehicle.
The vehicle eventually stopped, and before officers could exit their patrol car, suspects from the stolen vehicle fired multiple shots at them, according to Lynnwood Police. The suspects then fled and possibly got picked up by uninvolved parties to escape police.
No officers were injured in the shooting.
On Tuesday, Feb. 27, law enforcement learned of an 18-year-old Lynnwood man who was receiving treatment in Portland for non-life-threatening gunshot wounds.
The 18-year-old is suspected of being involved in the shooting.
The Snohomish County Multiple Agency Response Team (SMART) is now taking over the investigation.
