Memorial bench installed in Federal Way in honor of murdered Navy veteran

FEDERAL WAY, Wash. -- A community is seeking closure after a man was shot and killed while walking his dog in Federal Way.

Adam Gutierrez’s murder near SW 356th Street and 18th Avenue was one of three in a two-day span on May 9 and 10.  All of the cases remain unsolved.

“There’s nothing that leads us to why this senseless act occurred,” said Federal Way Police Public Information Officer Cathy Schrock.

On Thursday, the city of Federal Way installed a memorial bench at the spot where Gutierrez died. The bench was paid for by Gutierrez's family.

“It’s in a special place but for an unfortunate reason,” said Marianne Gutierrez, Adam’s wife.

The family and investigators hope the bench will help spark conversations that might bring them more leads and bring the family closure.

“As much as I love my grandson, I’m not seeking revenge, but I am seeking that the person that did this is taken off the streets and not be able to do this to someone else,” said Frank Krahner.

Federal Way Police said the Gutierrez case as well as two others are still part of active investigations. They’re asking anyone with information to call them or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS.
