Donald Trump in visit to Washington: 'We're going to win this state'

EVERETT, Wash. -- Donald Trump told thousands of supporters at a rally that he would win Washington state, which hasn't voted for a Republican presidential candidate since Ronald Reagan in 1984.

Trump spoke at Xfinity Arena in Everett Tuesday evening. He noted Washington's reputation as a tough place for GOP candidates.

"You know a Republican would never come to the state of Washington," he told the crowd. "We're gonna win it, that's why I'm here.

"We're going to win this state," he said again. "We're going to win the White House."

Trump last visited the state in May, when he held rallies in Spokane and Lynden.

A recent Elway Poll showed Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton with a double-digit lead over Trump in Washington, 43 percent to 24 percent.

Lines stretched for blocks as people waited to hear Trump to speak in Everett. Hundreds of protesters also gathered.

An organized protest rally began Tuesday afternoon at Clark Park.

Two protesters were arrested during the rally -- one man for disorderly conduct and a woman for assault.

Trump's plane landed at Paine Field shortly after 4 p.m.

State Sen. Doug Ericksen R-Ferndale, said more tickets were given out than the number of seats available. He said at least 13,000 tickets had been requested for an arena that holds a maximum of 10,000 people.

Also at the arena early were opponents, who said Trump wasn’t welcome in Washington.

“I think we wanted to come out here and very calmly express we don’t stand for that in Washington and Washington doesn’t stand for Trump,” said Becca Bramwell, who came to the arena with signs protesting Trump’s visit.
