Large wildfire prompts level 3 evacuations in Grant County
GRANT COUNTY, Wash - A large 600-acre wildfire has prompted level 3 evacuations in Grant County near the Gorge.
The Grant County Sheriff's office says the fire is burning fast in dry grass and sage three miles south of the Gorge Amphitheatre along the Columbia River.
Authorities are evacuating Old Vantage Highway and Frenchman Coulee.
There are no homes in the area, but those in recreational areas are being told to leave now.
Level 2 evacuations have also been issued for Road V SW east and south of Road 1 SW. Level 2 evacuations indicate there is a significant risk in the area and to prepare for immediate evacuation. Ten homes are in the area under level 2 evacuations.
Currently the wind is blowing the fire south, away from the four- day Sasquatch festival at The Gorge Amphitheatre. There are no evacuations of the festival, but a plan is in place if winds and conditions change.
This is a developing story and will be updated as we learn more.
