Hundreds to lose jobs as Haggen files layoff notice, intends to close 4 stores

Haggen has announced it will close four stores in Oregon and Washington it had hoped to sell or keep open.

The Oregonian reports 263 people will be laid off as the bankrupt grocer shutters stores in Happy Valley and West Linn in Oregon and in Burien and Federal Way in Washington.

A layoff notice filed with the state of Oregon Wednesday says the stores will close by May 9.

The closing stores are not on the list of more than 30 core stores defined in court documents as relatively successful.

The union that represents Haggen employees said this week that government regulators have approved a potential deal for Albertsons to buy the remaining core Haggen grocery stores.
