Semi-truck driver involved in double fatal crash on I -90 on Snoqualmie Pass released from jail

SNOQUALMIE PASS, Wash. -- Authorities say two people died in a crash involving eight vehicles Friday morning, and the driver of a semi truck was arrested for investigation of vehicular homicide.

On Saturday a spokesperson for the King County prosecutor's office said that the semi-driver had been released from jail pending results of toxicology reports.

Two people in a passenger car were killed and five others injured near milepost 51, just west of the Snoqualmie Pass summit.

All lanes of westbound Interstate 90 were blocked most of the day.

WSDOT first reported the crash around 6:15 a.m. The road reopened around 3 p.m.

“Drive for a long time and you see stuff you wish you hadn’t seen,” said Keith Cannon, a truck driver who came up on the accident.

He said he’s been driving trucks for 44 years and this is the worst crash he’s seen.

“It just happened right in front of me. I had my foot anchored to the floor trying to get my truck stopped,” said Cannon.

Cannon’s truck was not involved but he watched as the semi truck jackknifed in front of him and numerous cars slammed into each other.

“I couldn’t believe how fast these cars were going, they were just zipping by and they just piled up in there,” added Cannon.

Two semis appeared to be involved in the crash.

Trooper Chris Webb later said one of the semi drivers was arrested for investigation of vehicular assault. That person was driving a semi truck used to transport multiple vehicles.

Webb said a trooper who is a drug recognition expert contacted the driver of that semi and later determined that the driver was under the influence of drugs.

The collision is being investigated as a single crash, troopers said.

This is a developing story and will be updated.
