Suspected DUI driver arrested in fatal 5 vehicle crash near Mount Vernon

MOUNT VERNON, Wash - A 49-year old Sedro Woolley woman was killed when her Mercedes was struck by an oncoming  pickup on Francis Road in Skagit county Sunday night.  Police arrested the pickup driver on suspicion of DUI.

Washington State Patrol Trooper Mark Francis said that the pickup was eastbound in the 21000 block of Francis Road around 5:30 p.m.  Four other vehicles were westbound on Francis Road at the same time.

The pickup crossed the center line, striking the first oncoming vehicle, then struck the Mercedes almost head on.  The Sedro Woolley woman died at the scene, Francis said.  Her two adult passengers were transported to an area hospital - their conditions now known.

The fourth and fifth cars crashed into the pickup/Mercedes collision.

The pickup driver will be booked on investigation of vehicular homicide.
