Snohomish County Jail to take Seattle inmates

EVERETT, Wash. (AP) — The Snohomish County Jail will soon begin housing some inmates from Seattle.

The Everett Daily Herald reports that the Snohomish County Council approved a contract on Monday. The contract is expected to bring in $3 million in annual revenue for the sheriff's office.

Under the new contract, the county will host Seattle inmates serving time for misdemeanor convictions. When Seattle inmates are released, the sheriff's office will work to return them to Seattle.

Under the contract, the jail will reject Seattle inmates with expensive, high-liability issues, including those having withdrawals from drugs or alcohol.
