Large chunk of ice falls from sky, crashes through roof of central Washington home

MOXEE, Wash. -- A family in central Washington is trying to figure out how a large chunk of ice crashed through the roof of their home in late June.

KNDO reports a chunk of ice about 1-foot by 1-foot fell from the sky and into their roof Tuesday evening. It caused fairly extensive damage to the roof and inner ceiling of the home.

Several people were home at the time, but no one was injured.

"It doesn't happen everyday," Dwaine Morrison told KIMA. "It's just crazy to think about."

"You can see the blue sky through the roof and there's just insulation all over our clothes and a big chunk of ice on the floor," he said.

Moxee police are working with officials at the Yakima Airport to determine if the ice may have fallen from a plane passing overhead.

"It's not the blue ice," Morrison told the station. "So, that's a good thing."
