Inslee calls for 2nd special legislative session, orders budget negotiations be held in his office

OLYMPIA, Wash. (AP) — Gov. Jay Inslee has ordered state lawmakers to reconvene for a second special session at 9 a.m. Friday.

The governor also told lawmakers he wants them to move their face-to-face budget negotiations to his office, starting at 10 a.m. Monday.

Lawmakers completed their first special session Thursday afternoon without a state operating budget.

Republican leaders from the Senate and Democratic leaders from the House say they are getting closer to a deal. The Senate made a new budget proposal Thursday.

Both the House Democrats and the governor said the Senate budget offers a good outline of why the state needs new tax revenue to pay for things such as salary increases for teachers.
