Dozens of families face eviction after sale of mobile-home park

KIRKLAND, Wash. (AP) — Seniors, veterans, and families are facing eviction as developer plans to build 19 high-end homes on the site of their mobile-home park in Kirkland.

The Seattle Times reports that 32 families will be displaced from Kirkland's only mobile-home park, including older couples on fixed incomes, four veterans, two disabled people and young families with children.

Austin, Texas-based developer PSW Real Estate purchased the 3.4-acre Firwood Lane Mobile Home Park for $3.2 million in February.

Kirkland Planning Director Eric Shields says the city looked into buying the property to maintain the city's affordable housing options, but the owner would not sell.

Neighbors say some residents may not be able to take their homes because single-wide trailers are no longer allowed in most mobile-home parks. Relocating will cost about $15,000.
