Oregon woman uses friend's bridesmaid dress to rescue marmot

BEND, Ore. (AP) — A central Oregon woman decided to use her best friend's bridesmaid dress to scoop up an injured rockchuck she found in the town of Bend.

The Bend Bulletin reports (http://bit.ly/1PUrRIV ) that 35-year-old Laura Davies saw the yellow-bellied marmot, known as a rockchuck, after she finished dress shopping for her June wedding. Marmots are large ground squirrels.

She spotted the young animal in the grass and parked her car nearby. Davies sprinted in 4-inch heels to the rockchuck with the bridesmaid dress in hand.

The animal appeared to have a head injury and had likely been hit by a car.

Davies brought the animal to High Desert Wildlife Rescue and Rehabilitation, where she volunteers in Bend.

She says she is glad the rockchuck is recovering, and the poop it left on the bridesmaid dress was easily brushed off.
