Wife arrested after allegedly shooting at husband for not doing 'anything around the house'

EVERETT -- A Marysville woman has been arrested for attempted murder for allegedly shooting at her husband for failing to do enough around the house, court documents showed Monday.

An Everett District Court judge found probable cause to hold Starlene Roth, 54, in the Snohomish County Jail on an attempted murder charge. Bail was set at $250,000.

According to court documents, the husband, Greg Roth, 55, called 911 to report his wife had just shot at him at their home in Marysville Saturday night.

He told police he had been in the hospital for treatment for hepatitis and his wife was upset with him because he "hadn't been able to do anything around the house."

Greg said Starlene first threw a glass vase and it broke outside in the backyard. Greg said he cleaned that up and was barbecuing when his wife pushed over the barbecue. He said he picked it up and she pushed it over again. He said she then threw the TV remote and broke it.

Greg told police his wife then went to the bedroom and returned with her 9mm pistol and was yelling at him to "get the f*** out of the house." Greg said he was sitting on the loveseat and stood up and she fired the gun.

Greg said he grabbed his keys and phone and left the house. He said he wasn't sure if Starlene fired at him as he was driving away and told police, "I didn't want to wait for the second shot!"

According to the court documents, after Starlene was arrested, she told police she became frustrated with Greg after she wouldn't help her clean up some spilled water and she "blew up."

Police said Starlene told her she went into the bedroom, got her gun, racked the slide and pointed the loaded gun at Greg's chest and pulled the trigger. She missed. She told police she wasn't trying to hit him and regrets what she did.

Starlene said she and Greg had been married between 31 and 33 years.
