Teen's life-changing story is heart-wrenching reminder: Never text-and-drive

BALTIMORE -- A teen wants to warn others about a lesson she learned the hard way: never text and drive.

Liz Marks was in high school when she crashed her car. She was reading a text while driving.

The crash left her blind in one eye -- and diminished her ability to smell, hear, and even fall asleep.

Liz tells her story in a video posted on the U.S. Department of Transportation’s National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s YouTube channel .

The video’s description, written from the perspective of Marks’ mother, reads:

“This is the story of how my daughter Liz’s car accident from texting while driving has changed our lives forever. If you get a text, don’t look at it while you’re driving. It’s not worth it.”
