'Dangerous' 20-year-old Sammamish murder suspect, 18-year-old arrested at Canadian hotel

SAMMAMISH -- Authorities arrested a 20-year-old murder suspect and one other person Wednesday night in British Columbia, according to King County sheriff's deputies.

Police discovered a man's body around 11 a.m. on the 23100 block of 26th Place SE in Sammamish after someone called to report that there might have been an altercation inside the home and someone could be hurt.

Authorities later put out an alert saying that they were looking for Kevin Patterson, who should be considered "dangerous." They said he had ties to Canada and could be headed there.

Deputies tweeted that the suspect was in custody shortly after 10 p.m.

Ian MacDonald of the Abbotsford Police Department in Canada could not give Patterson's name, but confirmed a 20-year-old, along with an 18-year-old were taken into custody at an Abbotsford hotel without incident. Both will face charges of possession of stolen property, MacDonald said.

Following a court hearing Thursday, authorities will engage in extradition talks to bring Patterson back to the U.S.

Police said Thursday the 18-year-old was present at the murder scene, but are not yet sure if he was involved.

The age and identity of the slain man in Sammamish -- as well as the manner of death -- were not immediately released.

This is the first homicide in Sammamish since 1999.

Neighbors were shocked to hear about a crime like this happening in their neighborhood.

“It’s been a long time since anything like that has happened. It’s kind of unnerving, “said Brad Herriges.

He added that he heard some strange noises coming from the house.

“There was a bang and a scream, and then some persistent banging sound for a while,” he said.
