Police investigate possible murder/attempted suicide near Bremerton

NEAR BREMERTON -- All Sunday afternoon and evening, outside the home where the stabbing happened; crime scene tape, evidence markers and homicide investigators trying to put together the pieces of what appears to be a murder/attempted suicide.

"I was shocked because I felt we live in a very safe neighborhood,” neighbor Ruth Browne said.

Police say it is a safe neighborhood.

They say the altercation that led to the stabbing involved only the two people inside a man and a woman in their 50s.

"I was at church when this happened. I came home and there were all kinds of cars and trucks around so that kind of scared me,” Browne said.

The 911 calls started coming in at 11:41Sunday morning two people stabbed at a home in the 8500 block of Covina Loop Northeast in central Kitsap.

Police say after the man was stabbed he struggled across the street to get help from a neighbor.

"That man was transported to a local hospital in preparation to be airlifted and unfortunately he died of his injuries before the airlift could occur,” Kitsap County Sheriff’s Sergeant Ken Dickinson said.

Police found the woman still inside the home.

She too had been stabbed, but was still alive.

She was airlifted to the hospital.

Her condition is unknown.

"I can't imagine the woman stabbing the man but I don't know them,” Brown said.

Homicide investigators searched the neighborhood looking for witnesses.

"They have spoken to an eyewitness who gave them enough information that we believe the person, the female who is in the hospital is the person responsible for the injuries and death of the male victim,” Sgt. Dickinson said.

"It's just kind of tough for this neighborhood. Just a couple of weeks ago we had the incident down the street with Janice Wright and the family and then to have something like that here, just adds a little bit more anxiety to the area,” neighbor Don Patraw said.

There was a fire burning when deputies arrived.

Fire fighters were called and put it out quickly now investigators are trying to determine whether the fire was intentionally set or just a coincidence.
