Hot air balloon makes emergency landing at women's prison, causes lockdown
WILSONVILLE, Oregon -- A hot air balloon sent a women's prison into lockdown on Thursday morning.
According to FOX 12 Oregon, the balloon touched down in the parking lot at Coffee Creek Correctional Facility in Wilsonville. The prison went into a modified lockdown and inmates were forced to stay in their holding cells for a short time.
Officials said this was not a prison escape attempt. The balloon took off as part of the annual Tigard Balloon Festival at Cook Park and had to find somewhere to land.
The medium security prison has a capacity for 1,759 inmates. FOX 12 reports they are all accounted for.
