Be careful! Scam targets people who want to do the right thing

KITSAP COUNTY -- A scam that hit King County earlier this year is spreading. The Kitsap County Sheriff's Office says a con artist is posing as a sheriff's deputy and taking advantage of law-abiding citizens.
The scammer is calling people and telling them that there is a warrant out for their arrest for missing jury duty. The caller uses scare tactics by telling victims they could be arrested if they don't pay a fine to clear their name. They are instructed to purchase a pre-paid credit card to have the warrant lifted.
According to the sheriff's office, people have been scammed out of up to $1,000. Officials say the same scam caused trouble last summer in Kitsap County.
