Last night, the Olympia City Council voted unanimously to ban thin plastic bags, according to The Olympian.
The new law takes effect in July.
All stores will be affected, but mostly supermarkets.
If shoppers don’t have their own reusable bag, they can buy a paper one for five cents.
According to Thurston County officials, the average resident uses 350 to 500 bags per year.
Tumwater and unincorporated Thurston County recently approved similar laws.
