Coast Guard helps man from sinking vessel

SEATTLE -- The Coast Guard helped rescue one person from a sinking vessel Wednesday night near Guemes Island, Wash.

The Coast Guard Sector Puget Sound received a mayday call of a sinking boat at 5 p.m. from Clam Digger, a 59-foot fishing vessel. A 45-foot response boat-medium boat crew from Bellingham, Wash. deployed to the scene and helped the lone passenger off of his life raft near the sinking boat.

The cause of the ships demise is uknown. The Coast Guard remained on scene to monitor the situation Wednesday.
