Bail was set at $100,000 for Omar Abdelbadie, who has no previous criminal history and who posted bail and was freed. His arraignment is set for June 27.
According to the court documents, the 12-year-old girl said she ran away last Sunday from her sister’s home in north Seattle, where she was living, and ended up in the University District, where she said she was approached on the street by Abdelbadie that same night.
She told police that she told the student that she was “young” and 12 years old, but the Abdelbadie didn’t believe her. She said they smoked marijuana together and that the man offered to give her a ride back home to her sister’s house, but she declined the offer. So, she said, they ended up going back to his residence, where they had sex.
She said the next morning, the defendant left to run some errands but later returned and they had sex again. When going outside later, they ran into an acquaintance of Abdelbadie’s, who asked the girl’s age, argued with the defendant in private over what he had done and then called 911 on him.
He was arrested.
Police said the girl told detectives she was not forced to do anything and that the sex was consensual. But police said Abdelbadie in an interview that he admitted the girl told him when they first met that she was “under the age of 18” and told him “her real age.”
