SEATTLE — Some major hotel chains are getting rid of room service and more could soon follow according to the website, Gawker.

The site said the largest hotel in New York City, the Hilton Midtown, is ending room service in August and replacing it with a cafeteria-style, grab-and-go restaurant.

The 2,000 room hotel is also laying off 55 workers.

The Hilton Hawaiian Village in Honolulu was the first to completely drop the service, according to the website.

Gawker said the demand for room service is down and now other large hotels are also weighing the pros and cons of offering the service.
