Violent murder in Olympia

OLYMPIA -- The Thurston County Coroner's Office said Wednesday that a man found dead in a residence in Olympia Tuesday night had been stabbed and had an extension cord wrapped around his neck.

He was identified as John P. Alkins, 58. He was found in a home in the 3800 block of Sunset Beach Road NW in Olympia.

An autopsy was scheduled for Thursday to determine if Alkins died of the stab wounds or strangulation, the coroner's office said.

No other details were provided, and no arrests have been made in the case.
