UW researchers: Alzheimer’s fastest growing health threat

SEATTLE — A team of researchers from the University of Washington recently came out with a report that shows Alzheimer’s is the fastest growing health threat in the U.S.

They project that the number of people with the disease will triple in the next 40 years — to 13.8 million by the 2050.

Alzheimer’s is a progressive, degenerative disorder, that attacks the brain’s nerve cells and leads to memory loss.

It can impair the way people think and behave.

We spoke to Bob Le Roy, the president and CEO of the Alzheimer’s Association in Seattle, about the studies results.
