SALEM, Ore. –If you’re a regular smoker, you may want to keep an eye on a new bill in the Oregon Legislature.
Rep. Mitch Greenlick, from Portland, is sponsoring a bill that makes cigarettes a Schedule III controlled substance, meaning it would be illegal to possess or distribute cigarettes without a doctor’s prescription.
Under the proposal, offenders would face maximum punishments of one year in prison, a $6,250 fine or both.

Aren't doctors the ones always trying to get us to stop smoking? This makes no logical sense. What would they be prescribed for? Nicotine addiction? LOL! Really???

Seriously?! It is time the government worried about the economy and real issues than this crap! Sorry, not very articulate, but I am so fed up with what is getting their energy. I would like less government interference and energy spent on wasteful issues.

I just dedicated 30 minutes talking about this on my radio show. I am a non smoker, and I am HIGHLY offended on this bill. Is this a way to have Oreon generate more prisoners and/or state money out of fines? http://www.freedomizerradio.com

So many companies would loose out on money, How is this in anyway going to help the state at all? Alcohol is legal and it kills much more people than cigarettes. Not to mention the waste in funding to enforce this bill, this would waste so much more money than would be worth it at all.People need to focus on the real problems not just avoid them by making a solution for a problem that doesn't even exist.

Talk about the government trying to control every aspect of our lives! They have bigger things to worry about if you ask me. Personally I think this is an abuse of power and shouldn't even be proposed. Dumb government!

Wait I'm confused. Stating it as a C III narcotic would mean that cigarettes have some sort of medical use. It should be a C I. Addictive and with no medical merit.

You've got to wonder where they find these people that are elected for office. Better yet, where do you find the people that vote for them?
