Fife woman accused of trying to kill her kids

FIFE, Wash. -- A 4-year-old girl is in critical condition after her own mother reportedly tried to kill her and her 2-year-old brother.

Hina Sadia, 31, appeared in Pierce County Superior Court Monday wearing a pink mask. She was formally charged with two counts of attempted murder. She pleaded not guilty.

According to Fife Police, Sadia called 911 Sunday afternoon and said she had just killed her 4-year-old daughter and was going to kill her "baby boy."

According to court documents, Sadia told dispatchers that “I just killed my child in the bathtub."

“I don’t know why, but now I’m going to kill my baby boy," she said, according to police reports.

She also said on the 911 call that she did it “because I am a bad mother” and “I cannot take care of my kids.”

When officers arrived at the home in 3200 block of Festival Avenue E., they found the 4-year-old girl unresponsive and not breathing. The 2-year-old boy was sobbing and had a bruise on his neck.

“This is still kind of a mystery to us. We’re trying to contemplate why this would’ve occurred. It’s difficult to understand,” said Assistant Chief Dave Wood of the Fife Police Department. “Our investigation is still ongoing and hopefully we’ll have some additional answers in the near future."

The mom told police she first choked her son, then decided to choke and kill her daughter first. The court ruled  Sadia can have no contact with either children or their father.

If her daughter dies at Mary Bridge Hospital, the attempted murder charge will be changed to murder. The son is in stable condition.

People in the quiet, family-oriented neighborhood are pulling for the daughter to make a recovery.

“It’s bothering me a lot, I pray for her. I just hope she makes it,” said Larry DeWolf. “I hate people that harm children.”

Her bail was set at $1 million.
