Bernie Sanders to hold campaign rally at Tacoma Dome

TACOMA, Wash. -- Bernie Sanders is coming to  Tacoma next week.

The Vermont Senator and Democratic presidential candidate will be at the Tacoma Dome at 7 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 17, according to his campaign website.  Doors will open at 5 p.m.

It's the first Washington state rally of Sanders' 2020 campaign. He will be joined by Washington Rep. Pramila Jayapal.

The rally is scheduled a little over three weeks before the state's March 10 Democratic presidential primary.  Four years ago, Washington's primaries were held on May 24, but state lawmakers decided to move up the calendar to just one week after Super Tuesday.

"Four years ago by the time our Washington primary hit, most of the candidates had dropped out and we knew who the nominees would be. But this time around it might just be wide open and that's exciting," said Washington Secretary of State Kim Wyman, who pushed for the change.

Ballots and voter pamphlets are set to go out on Feb. 21.
