Sheriff: 1 dead, 1 seriously injured in Lake Tahoe avalanche

One male skier died and another was seriously injured in an avalanche at a Northern California ski resort.

The Placer County Sheriff's office said search crews were scouring the Alpine Meadows resort Friday for other possible victims.

A storm passing through the area Thursday dumped up to 2 feet of snow at Squaw Valley-Alpine Meadows, a ski resort in the Lake Tahoe area.

An avalanche at Alpine Meadows in 1982 killed seven people, including several employees of the ski resort.
