Deputies investigating deadly road rage shooting in University Place

UNIVERSITY PLACE, Wash. – A man is dead after a road rage incident in Lakewood escalated into a shooting Wednesday night, according to the Pierce County Sheriff’s Office.

The shooting happened along Chambers Creek Road West in University Place after police say a 48-year-old man got out of his truck with a gun after a confrontation on the road. A 42-year-old man in the car behind the truck also got out and fired, killing the 48-year-old.

The details of the shooting are still under investigation, and detectives are interviewing witnesses.

Police say the shooter stayed at the scene and is cooperating with authorities. Roads in the area have been closed during the investigation.

Authorities say the best thing to do during a road rage incident is to ignore the person and call 911 if they persist on threatening you.
"You never know when somebody's going to be so mad that they exit with a gun," Det. Ed Troyer with the sheriff's office explained. "If you're mad enough to exit a vehicle, be prepared that somebody else might be armed. It's just a bad situation all around."
