Car share company to shut down in Seattle, other cities

SEATTLE -- Considering the many ride-sharing services at our fingertips, Share Now, formerly known as Cars2Go is the next on the list of car-sharing companies to cease operation in Seattle.

The car rental company announced Wednesday they will be shutting down while allowing current customers to continue using the service until February 29, 2020.

The German company decided it’s best to leave the North American market, the company said in a release. With a The company has a Seattle customer base of 148,309 people and a fleet of cars like the Mercedes-Benz, BMW, and Mini Cooper to rent.

The decision was made after the rising operating costs and “the infrastructure complexities facing North American Transportation,” said a spokesperson from Share Now.

Due to the growing tech scene, Seattle has been a hub for testing new mobility sharing products. Companies like Lime Car and ReachNow have tested their products in the Seattle market. Like Share Now, both companies are set to be shutting down their car rental services.

Share Now will still focus their operation in their European market .

In their departure, Share Now announced, “We deeply regret the inconvenience this decision causes. We want to extend a heartfelt thank you to every employee, member, business partner, and city stakeholder."
