Renton PD: Officer shoots naked man pointing gun at customers in businesses

RENTON, Wash. -- A Renton Police officer shot a naked man who was reportedly pointing a gun at customers in businesses Tuesday morning.

Police said officers responded about 8:15 a.m. to a "lewd" man near the 4700 block of Lake Washington Boulevard NE. Callers told police he was naked and had a gun, and that he was breaking windows and pointing the gun at people in multiple businesses.

Officers encountered him near I-405 and told the man to drop the gun, but he refused. The officer reportedly fired at him when he raised his gun toward the officer after trying several other de-escalation tactics.

Renton Police said he appeared to be in serious, but stable condition.

The Valley Investigation Team will handle the police shooting investigation.
