Tacoma Police officer shoots, kills man during traffic stop



TACOMA, Wash. – A Tacoma Police officer shot and killed an armed suspect during an overnight traffic stop Sunday.

The shooting happened near Portland Ave. E and E 34th St. around 2:40 a.m. The 24-year-old male suspect had multiple warrants out for his arrest, including a felony, when the officer stopped him, according to the Pierce County Sheriff’s Office.

A struggle broke out as the officer tried to make the arrest, ending only after the officer fired his weapon.

The suspect, who has not been identified, died at the scene. A handgun belonging to the suspect was found.

The 33-year-old officer involved in the shooting was not hurt and has been placed on paid administrative leave.
