Teen in custody after double stabbing in Federal Way

FEDERAL WAY, Wash. -- One man is dead and a 16-year-old girl is hospitalized following a double stabbing at a Federal Way apartment complex Friday morning.

Crime scene investigators spent more than eight hours at the Greystone Meadows apartments in Federal Way collecting evidence.

According to the Federal Way Police Department, officers responded just after 8 a.m. to reports of a stabbing. Investigators found two people had been stabbed, a 35-year-old man and a 16-year-old girl.

Officers immediately began performing lifesaving measures on the man, but he was eventually pronounced dead at the scene. The 16-year-old girl was treated at the scene then taken to Harborview Medical Center.

A Federal Way Police official told Q13 News that preliminary information suggests the teenager was likely not acting in self-defense. The child's mother is also in relationship with the 35-year-old victim, said police. The teen has been taken into custody while she is at Harborview Medical Center.

Neighbors told Q13 News they were shocked violence had happened in their area.

"We’ve had a few police activities but nothing like the stabbings," said neighbor Sonyja Sawyer. "I’ve been here for nine years now."

Police said they are not looking for any other people involved in the double stabbing, but they haven't said what led to the fatal stabbing.

The King County Medical Examiner is tasked with positively identifying the 35-year-old victim in the case.
