Seattle Children's Hospital confirms measles in baby

SEATTLE (AP) — A 6-month-old child seen at Seattle Children's Hospital has been confirmed with the eighth case of measles in the Puget Sound area.

The Seattle Times reports it's the fifth measles case in King County this month.

The baby contracted the disease from someone in her household.

Officials with Public Health-Seattle & King County say the only place they know the child might have exposed people was in the Seattle Children's emergency room from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Friday.

The highly contagious measles virus can linger in the air for up to two hours.

Seattle Children's has notified families in the emergency department who may have been exposed.

The 2019 local measles outbreak began May 9 and has led to cases in schools in Issaquah and Bothell.
