10 people rescued from boat taking on water near Neah Bay

NEAH BAY, Wash. -- The U.S. Coast Guard rescued 10 people from a boat in distress about 25 miles southwest of Neah Bay.

Officials say someone on the 33-foot recreational boat reported that the boat was taking on water Thursday morning southwest of Cape Flattery.

Officials say the boat's engine failed and the bilge pumps were unable to handle the rate of water flowing into the boat.

Officials say crews rescued six adults and four children.

The source of the boat's flooding was found to be a wash-down hose clamp that had broken off. Once fixed, the boat was able to return to Neah Bay.

The Coast Guard says no environmental contamination was reported.
