CAPTURED: Crime Stoppers tip leads to arrest in Kennewick of vicious stabbing suspect wanted in King County

CAPTURED --  Daniel Varela AKA “Capone” was arrested today thanks to an anonymous tip to Tri-Cities Crime Stoppers that he was seen at the Zintel Canyon Park in Kennewick.  The U.S. Marshal’s Pacific NW Violent Offender Task Task Force located Varela sleeping in a brush area. He was arrested without incident and booked into the Benton County Jail in Kennewick.

KING COUNTY, Wash. -- King County Sheriff's deputies are searching for 42-year-old Daniel Varela, aka "Capone," who has a $1,000,000 warrant for his arrest after detectives say he cut a 55-year-old man's throat and stabbed him multiple times in his face, nose, head, both arms and hip on March 20th. Authorities say Varela is considered "Armed and Dangerous."

The victim barely survived and is still in critical condition. He told detectives that Varela stabbed him because he gave Varela's girlfriend a ride earlier that morning.

A man leaving his dentist heard someone honking and found the victim found bleeding profusely in his car that had crashed into a fence and pole in the 700 BLK of SW 98, in White Center. The victim told police that he was giving Varela a ride when Varela started stabbing him.


Varela is 5’9" and 175 pounds. King County Prosecutors have charged him Assault in the 1st Degree. He has prior convictions in Texas for Assault Causing Bodily Injury (2006), Assault with a Deadly Weapon (2010). He was also convicted in California for Alien Smuggling (2000), Transportation of Illegal Aliens (2001), DUI (2001) and Failure to Provide Care (2001).


Sheriff's officials ask that the public not contact him, as he is considered to be armed and dangerous.
